What is ZENworks Asset Management

Basic Concepts

I will make available, a pdf outlining how ZAM interacts with all the different pieces. Task Server, Collection Server, Client, and database.

Installation

Database Issues

  • The installer logs any DB related processes to C:\Program Files\Novell\Zenworks\Asset Management\DBTools\DBSetupLog.txt

When installing ZAM on a server that will not hold the database, as in if the database was running on a separate msSQL server, the following must be true.

Administration

Firewalls

Workstation Firewall Requirements

  • Port 7461 must be allowed on the workstation

Here is also a registry key which creates a XP firewall exception so that the ZAM client can communicate to the ZAM server.

Software Usage

Software usage can be monitored for applications installed on the workstation or running from a server. This includes applications launched by NAL.
