I found yesterday a feature in the Camera that I did not know existed.

Amazingly the Camera supports 8 MP with features like Simultaneous HD video and image recording, geo-tagging, face and smile detection. The smile detection is very amazing. Simply put, self portrats have NEVER been easier Also the Side Camera button is extremely accessable.

I also noticed that the camera application loads instantaneously, which is much faster than the old EVO.

I did have to change pictures to Portrait for indoor use, otherwise the pictures have a yellow tint to them.

HTC EVO LTE has Arrived

I finally have the new EVO LTE activated and operational in my minds.

So far I’m in love with it. The interface is very zippy, Ice Cream Sandwich is great and the display his SO crisp.

The display blows the iPhone 4S away. It’s so much larger and I think just as crisp if not more.

HTC EVO LTE Delayed

Today the HTC EVE LTE was delayed at US Customs due to patent reasons raised by Apple [1].

Is this not another example of Patents ruining business. This seems to be another example that OpenSource is the way to encourage business, encourage innovation and adoption.

It seems that every time I reload my PC I forgot a package that I need to build Tomboy and it takes me forever to find the answer. Hopefully this will help someone else or I will remember that I wrote a post about it

Installing Skype on OpenSuSE 12.1

For any pore souls out there trying to get Skype running on OpenSuSE 12.1, here are some of the packages that you will need.

Plus the ones in the screen-shot. (This is for 64bit. I don’t think it would matter for 32bit)

Tomboy and OSX (Lion)

Guess what! We have Tomboy running on OSX Lion. Here’s how and BIG thanks to Renier.

You need to download and install the Mono Universal package (MonoFramework-2.8_10.macos10.novell.universal.dmg). You can download it from [1]

Once you have that version of Mono install you can build Tomboy using the steps here [2]. Hopefully we can get a installer posted for Mac soon.

Nest Thermostat

After using the Nest thermostat for over two weeks I thought I should write down my first impressions.

The convenience is great. Nest provides apps for basically all devices. Also the apps are very “clean”, simple and intuitive. I’m glad that I can control the device from anywhere.

Installation was basic except that I did have trouble with the wires. I had more than I needed and it took a bit of reading to figure which wires were required. it’s doubtful if Nest could help on this any more than they did, other than maybe provide more wire-mapping combinations.

I am disappointed though that there are not statistics for the device. At least I have not found a way to report anything about the device, my power usage and other such things. I would like to see what schedule the thermostat believes is best for me, what power consumption is happening and other such things. Sure I will be able to see some from my power bill, but we already had a good system.

All in All the 270$ is worth it to me so that I can easily control while on the road.

A new build of Tomboy for Windows

Tomboy 1.9.7 was released last week. This release was a special release just for Windows. The release addresses issues with synchronization.

Tomboy Mono 4.0 and Ubuntu

This is a quick public service announcement. Earlier today, ajmitch reminded me of a little gotcha that exists around Mono applications in Ubuntu 11.10. As a five second summary, in 11.10 the Debian Mono team switched the default runtime version from 2.0 to 4.0. This involved recompiling (and sometimes patching) all libraries and applications in the distribution with the new verison.

The point for Tomboy though, is that you can make a simple fix in the shell script to get around this. Here’s an example of what you need to Launch Tomboy.

mono –runtime=v4.0 Tomboy.exe

We are looking to fix this in future releases though.
